UK Charts Course to F-35 Full Operational Capability

A Carrier Strike Group led by HMS Prince of Wales and her F-35Bs set sail last month for Operation Highmast, a major global deployment featuring two F-35B squadrons from the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force for the first time.

"Operation Highmast marks a pivotal milestone for the Lightning program," said Group Captain Butcher, commander of the Lightning Air Wing. "We are on track to achieve full operational capability for F-35 in the UK, with the ability to deploy two squadrons to the maritime operating base."

Wherever They May Roam

While the F-35s have already "proven their mettle in operational settings," the milestone means the UK can conduct continuous F-35 operations with multiple squadrons from land and sea, which significantly enhances its rapid response capabilities.
